Two-day tour travelling down the Mekong River all the way from Thailand to the enchanting Luang Prabang – cultural capital of Laos via boat. Enjoy the spectacular beauty of nature and experience the timeless traditions that define Laos as well as other exotic landscapes of the country itself while passing by plenty riverside villages on the way.
Arrive at Thai Immigration Office at 08:00. Once crossing Houay Xay – Lao border, one tour-guide of ours will be waiting to pick up and provide transport to the shared cruise boat. From there, the two-day trip to Luang Prabang begins with an overnight stop in Pakbeng.
Disembark along the way to explore and visit rural hill tribe settlement. Experience the genuine beauty of rural way of life here in advance to returning for a delightful buffet lunch on board.
Depending on the current stage of the river, the boat may be able to reach Pakbeng late in the afternoon to be in time for catching a sunset over the river. Pakbeng is a small but lively and dynamic town located in the middle of the way from Houay Xay to Luang Prabang, with wooden-built houses lined along the slopes on the hillside. Guests will have dinner and spend the night in Pakbeng.
Breakfast to be served at the hotel before continuing the cruising trip downstream the river.
OPTIONAL: Opportunity to visit the local morning market for early risers; experience the buying and exchanging goods activities amongst the hill tribes and nearby villagers
Leave at 08:30, en route to Luang Prabang with two stops along the way. Enjoy lunch while cruising down onto the Mekong River.
Stopover at the village of Ban Baw, disembark to experience the traditional method of making rice alcohol. Then, return to the cruise for continuing the tour of the day on the beautiful Mekong River heading to Pak Ou Caves, the place is also known as Tam Ting Caves. These caves are carved out of natural limestone cliffs and also known as a sacred place for local pilgrimages. The caves themselves contain a lot of gold lacquered Buddha statues with the sizes ranging from a tiny piece to the size of a human.
Arrive in Luang Prabang in the evening after around 2 hours cruising downstream from Pak Ou.
